SEO-MANIA, why?
SEO-MANIA website exists because SEO was driving me crazy! Everywhere I turned I saw SEO articles, SEO consultants, SEO software, in fact a quick search on Google for the word "SEO" returned 2,990,000 pages!
To put things into perspective, there are 5,500,000 results returned for the word "elvis" and 4,260,000 for the word "beatles". That means SEO is about half as popular as the most famous musician that ever lived. That's SEO-MANIA!
SEO-MANIA purpose
SEO-MANIA's main purpose is to satisfy my own curiosity about how far I could take this whole SEO thing. I think once the rest of the world catches on, Elvis just might be in trouble! Actually my secondary goal is to hopefully help some people as kind of a side effect to my own SEO_MANIA. Perhaps I could turn this into yet another SEO tutorial or SEO how to guide (or not).
SEO-MANIA.COM, started 2003-11-17 2am(ish)
SEO-MANIA really started for me back in November 1999 when I optimized my first web site. SEO was really, really easy back in those days but boy have things changed. SEO stayed in the back of my mind over the last few years and about 18 months ago it really started trying to find a way out of my head. SEO-MANIA inspired me (more like took control of me) to leave my position at an IT company and set up my own SEO venture (SEO adventure is probably more accurate!). At the end of February 2003, SEO-MANIA got the better of me, I left the IT company and decided I would set out to conquer the SEO world, and tame the SEO beast.

I managed to pass the SEO contageon to two friends who then had no choice but to embark on the SEO journey with me. I'd been working on my own SEO software for the last 18 months and now my two friends would help me beautify the SEO software package so that it was aesthetically pleasing (usable by normal people and not just tech types). In the weeks that followed I sometimes thought that my two friends were even more afflicted by SEO-MANIA than I was. About four months later, thanks to our shared SEO-MANIA, we had a highly marketable SEO software solution. Now all we needed was customers!
SEO-MANIA's driving force revealed
SEO-MANIA, SEO SEO SEO! Why all the fuss? Here I was with my own SEO software ready to sell and it suddenly dawned on me. Major SEO-MANIA revelation.....
All this SEO fuss is about finding customers. Some people just want visitors but let's face it, most business want more customers! Thats how this whole SEO thing got started. It reminds me of the original "information superhighway" hype about "get a website and people will flock to buy your offering!", only this time the hype has appeared under a new guise. This time the promise is "SEO your website and people will flock to buy your offering!". Hmmm, I wonder just how true this whole SEO thing really is? Are people realy getting thousands, tens of thousands (or even millions) more visitors since SEOing their websites? Are people really making 100%, 500%, 1000% more since SEOing their websites? Just how much traffic can some good SEO draw? Is it really worth paying $$$$$ to get just a few clicks or is the amount of extra traffic really worth it? Would I be better off using pay-per-click advertising like Overture?
So here I am with what is possibly the best SEO software on the planet and I wonder if SEO is really even that effective?
SEO-MANIA takes control
SEO-MANIA takes control of me once again. This time SEO-MANIA drives to me to discover for myself if SEO can really provide the the traffic, the exposure, the orders, the ROI that's promised on the 2,990,000 pages found in Google or if it is indeed just SEO hype. Its go for broke time! I'm gonna put everything to the test and aim for the coveted number one SEO spot on the SERPs (Search Engine Result Page). According to Overture, there were 125,885 searches for the term SEO last month. Hmmm, 20 times as many pages as there are searches. I wonder if that's meaningful? Maybe it will come to me later.
SEO-MANIA, whats in a name?
Selecting a good SEO domain name
So, where do I start? First things first, I certainly want a domain name that contains the keyword I want to optimize for at least once. Since I'm going to optimize my page for the keyword SEO, I'd best choose a domain name that starts with SEO. A Quick whois search at my favourite domain registrar and its settled. I'm going to use the domain name "seo-mania.com" (surprise, surprise!). Fill in a quick form and.....
Ok all done, its registerd (do a whois on seo-mania.com and you'll see the registration date!)
By this time tommorrow, the domain will be good to go (DNS issues).
It's not allways the case mind you but my research has shown that using a domain name that contains your keyword, adds some SELP (Search Engine Love Points) to your page. SELP is just a term I use to describe things that improve your standing with a search engine. You heard it first here!
Now that I have my domain "SEO-MANIA.COM registered, let's move on...
SEO-MANIA search engine submission not required
Being the SEO-MANIAC that I am, I have dicovered that there is a faster way to get my site into google's index! Would an SEO-MANIAC wait 4-8 weeks for googlebot to randomly spider his top page, and then another 4-8 weeks for googlebot to spider the rest of the site? A true SEO-MANIAC would not wait! A true SEO-MANIAC would do what I do and that is.....
A true SEO-MANIAC would add a link to their new site on the top page of a popular site that is visited regularly by googlebot. Almost any medium-high traffic site already indexed by google should do the trick.
Try posting a link on one of those popular blog sites for example.
